TOROSAY CASTLE AND GARDENS
Following on from our successful forays to John O’Groats and Wick, B & D Roofing & Building was proud to be appointed as principal contractors for the external refurbishment of the famous Torosay Castle on the Island of Mull.
The “Castle” is in fact a Baronial Mansion designed by the renowned Scottish architect David Bryce and dating back to 1885.
The works involved the stripping of all existing slates and lead weathering’s form the high-level pitched roofs, stone restoration, conservation works and a sympathetic overhaul and draught proofing of the sash and case windows.
There was also an element of structural stabilisation works required primarily to the south elevation turrets and dormer pediments.
Taking account of the local climate it was decided that the project would be best supported by the provision of a temporary roof structure; this provided protection to the internal fabric of the building and allowed us to in most weather conditions.
GILMORE FREE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, EDINBURGH
This is one of many places of worship B & D Roofing & Building has worked on over the years and another project where we were tasked with a variety of items that one would not normally associate with a roofing contractor.
Of particular note was the creation of a new bright and airy reading room out of a rather dark and dingy storage area at the back of the church.
The project also involved significant stone restoration and repair as well as the re-pointing of nearly all the external walls.
All the works were carried out by our in-house team of dedicated craftsmen.
